Women’s Thresholds, Women’s Bodies
An afternoon to remember and explore the weaving of initiation and physiology
Saturday, July 25th 12:30-3 pm
The Kiva at MaMa, Stone Ridge
Initiations are built into a female physiology. How might we honor and hold these thresholds for our ourselves and our community?
We live in a culture largely bereft of passed-down ceremonies. Many of us were raised by women who themselves were never initiated by a living matriarchal tradition. We are living on lands our grandmothers never knew, carrying stories that have been fragmented, forgotten, or lost.
We are surrounded by messages that women's bodies are broken, or at the very least inconvenient, unpredictable, and untrustworthy.
And yet, in the midst of this cultural poverty, we carry rites of passage - built into our bodies as women. Inevitable, unavoidable.
Menarche. Menstruation. Motherhood. Menopause. Loss. Illness. Aging. Death.
Many of us have the dreams, the echoes, the distant memories of what it feels like for these moments to be honored and held - bone deep.
Somewhere deep in the body we have a longing to be witnessed through change rather than left to navigate it alone.
We hear that it takes a village.
But what does that actually mean?
And what does it look like to become that village for one another?
This workshop is less about receiving answers, and more about having the space to chew on the questions and draw nourishment from the marrow of our collective experiences.
About the Gathering
This workshop is an invitation into inquiry and exploration. I don’t have the magical blueprint to hand you, I’m hoping we can unearth something together.
I would like to invite you to come be village-d.
To step into a place of inquiry and exploration around what it looks like to support women in our community. And to bring the greater vision of allowing ourselves to receive witnessing, handholding, and fire- keeping through these initiations of female physiology.
What We Will Explore Together
This gathering is a space to sit (move, howl, etc) with the questions around women’s thresholds, initiation, and the ways we are held and we hold through change.
Through teaching, reflection, conversation, and embodied practice, we will explore:
The ways women’s bodies naturally move through thresholds and transformation
The role of ritual, ceremony, and witnessing across cultures
What creates a rite of passage, and what is missing when these moments go unrecognized
The experiences that have shaped us individually and collectively
What it might look like to rebuild forms of support, recognition, and belonging around women’s transitions
You might feel drawn to this gathering if you have ever wondered:
What happens when we are not witnessed through the moments that change us?
How might we create more meaningful support for ourselves and each other?
What wisdom already exists within our bodies, our stories, and our communities?
How do we honor the experiences that live in our bodies in a world that much prefers us in our heads.
Women of all ages and life stages are welcome. The space is only made richer through the diversity of our experiences.
